Credit Transfer

ARTICLE 45 (1) Graduate courses taken by a student in domestic/international higher education institutions within the last five years prior to enrolling in the Institute, including those taken in special/guest student status, may be transferred to the student's registered program upon the recommendation of the Head of the Department/Major Art Branch and the decision of the relevant Institute Administrative Board. (2) Candidates who wish to transfer credits to programs taught in a foreign language, if they have previously taken the courses they wish to be exempt from in another language, the decision on whether or not to grant exemption for these courses is made with the favorable opinion of the Head of the Department/Major Art Branch and the approval of the Institute Administrative Board, taking into account the content of the courses and the student's level of knowledge.

Application

ARTICLE 5 – (1) Students who are newly registered with the University must apply to the relevant unit with a petition for exemption and adaptation within 10 (ten) working days following their initial registration date. Students in the Foreign Language Preparatory program must apply to the relevant Unit for adaptation within 10 (ten) working days from the announcement of their proficiency results. Requests for exemption in subsequent semesters/years or requests for cancellation of completed exemption and adaptation procedures are not accepted. (2) The application must be made in person or hand-delivered by official representatives. Applications submitted outside the application period are not accepted. (3) The application petition must be accompanied by the course contents and a transcript (sealed, stamped, and signed) approved by the higher education institution where the courses were previously completed successfully. The application will not be processed if the said documents are photocopies, faxes, unapproved, and/or incomplete. (4) Exemption and Adaptation procedures are evaluated by the Adaptation Committee and finalized by the Unit Administrative Board within 15 working days following the student's application.

Exemption and Adaptation

ARTICLE 6 - (1) Exemption applications are evaluated by the relevant department/program adaptation committees and decided upon by the relevant unit administrative boards. (2) Regardless of whether the requested course is compulsory or elective, the decision is made based on course content compatibility/Course Hours, Credit, and ECTS values, provided that the student has been successful and considering the equivalence of the department/program. (3) Courses taken by the student in the Double Major/Minor program cannot be exempted from the student's Major program. (4) For courses repeated more than once, the most recent successful grade received is the basis for exemption. (5) In exemption procedures for course(s) recognized and exempted upon the recommendation of the Adaptation Committee and the approval of the unit administrative board, a letter-grade exemption is applied, and the grades of the exempted courses are included in the calculation of the General Grade Point Average (GGPA). (6) The total ECTS credits of the exempted courses cannot exceed 50% of the total ECTS Credits of the courses in the relevant program's curriculum. If the ECTS credits of the courses requested for exemption are more than half of the total course ECTS credits, the courses to be exempted are determined starting with the highest grade the student has received. In exceptional cases (students benefiting from the Amnesty Law and adaptations made to 4th and subsequent years of the Faculties of Dentistry, Medicine, and Pharmacy), the Unit Administrative Board decides to increase this ratio. (7) The name of a course requested to be considered exempt does not have to be exactly the same as the course to be exempted. In course evaluation, the content of the course must be equivalent; Course Hours, Credit, and ECTS values must be equal to or greater than the course to be exempted. In graduate programs, even if an exact equivalent of the course requested for exemption is not available, if the course content is deemed appropriate by the Adaptation Committee, the course is added to the Academic Status Document in accordance with the provisions specified in the fifth paragraph. (8) In exemption requests for courses taken and successfully completed at other universities by students registered through lateral transfer; if more than one course is considered equivalent to one course, adaptation is made by taking the weighted grade point average according to the credits of these courses. If one course is considered equivalent to more than one course, the passing grade can be given to the equivalent courses by considering the sum of one of the Course Hours, Credit, and ECTS values and their contents. (9) Objections to the results of the exemption and adaptation procedures must be made to the relevant unit within a maximum of 5 (five) working days from the date the Unit Administrative Board's decision is notified to the student by the department secretariats. (10) The student is obliged to attend the course(s) for which they have requested exemption until the request is finalized by the administrative board. (11) Courses that are common in the Major and Double Major/Minor curricula are exempted by the Unit Administrative Board, and a DE grade is given in the Double Major/Minor program. When the student reaches graduation status, the letter grades of the exempted courses are recorded on the Double Major/Minor Academic Status Document and included in the GGPA calculation. Courses taken by the student in the Double Major/Minor program cannot be exempted from the student's Major program. (12) For students removed from Double Major/Minor programs, the course(s) they successfully completed in the second Double Major/Minor program that were not accepted in the Major program are indicated with the DM/M code on the Major transcript. These courses and ECTS Credits are not included in the calculation of the course and ECTS Credit load required for graduation.
